Football will not be the only order of the day when all 16 MultiChoice Diski Challenge (PSL Reserve
League) clubs gather at the University of Pretoria (Tuks) for match day 4
& 5 this weekend on Saturday, 11 and Sunday 12 October.
Thrown into the mix of the two-day football festival is a
financial planning session for the players and a ‘coach the coach’ programme for coaches.
The teams’ coaching staff will also come away from Tuks equipped
with indispensable skills and knowledge. To aid their development, MultiChoice
has arranged a ‘coach the coach’ session with renowned youth development coach
Foppe de Haan. He is held in high esteem in the SA football fraternity, having
taken a relatively young Ajax Cape Town to the brink of a first league title in
the 2010/11 season. Some of his successes in youth football include the 2006
and 2007 UEFA European Under-21 football championship title with Netherlands.
The Dutchman’s session will focus on how coaches and clubs can help transition
players from being promising academy graduates into rising PSL star.
The South African sports industry continues to grapple with major
issues of financial security as players tend to live for the now and fail to
plan financially for life after sport. But now, the MultiChoice Diski Challenge, which seeks to develop financially savvy players, has roped in financial
institution Absa to impart financial planning knowledge to the players. The
session aims to equip them with essential financial skills and knowledge early
in their football careers.
With the group stage finishing line looming large, it’s now or
never for all 16 teams to secure the points needed to confirm qualification to
the knockout stages. With both round 4 (Saturday) and 5 (Sunday) being played
out this weekend, six points are up for grabs.
Entry into Tuks is free, tickets are available at all Computicket
outlets until Friday, October 10. Two tickets will be allocated per person.
Please note no tickets will be issued on match day.
